Rev. Fr. Evans Wamalwa Wakhongola

Founder Member
Birth & Early Life

Rev. Fr. Evans Wamalwa Wakhongola was born and raised in Trans Nzoia County, Kenya. Growing up in a low-income family, he experienced firsthand the challenges that many children from disadvantaged backgrounds face in accessing quality education. Financial hardship often threatened his academic journey, and like many of his peers, he lived with the constant uncertainty of school fee arrears.

At one point, Fr. Evans was forced to leave school for more than six months after being sent home due to unpaid fees. During this period, he undertook casual work to raise funds for his education. His experience reflected the reality of many children in rural communities, where poverty forces students to abandon their studies in search of work to support themselves and their families. While some eventually return to school, many never get the opportunity.

Rather than discouraging him, these challenges strengthened his determination and inspired a lifelong commitment to ensuring that no child’s potential is limited by their family’s economic circumstances. His personal struggles became the foundation of his passion for educational empowerment and social justice.

Career & Public Service

Fr. Evans also credits his childhood experiences with shaping his vocation to the priesthood. The encouragement and support he received from priests and religious brothers during his high school and college years inspired him to pursue a life of service through the Catholic Church. As a priest, he has dedicated himself to mentoring young people and creating opportunities for vulnerable students through educational support, guidance, and community outreach.

Vision

His shared vision with founder Philomenah Bineah-Kapkory, rooted in their common experiences of educational hardship, led to a collaborative commitment to supporting vulnerable children. Together, they transformed their personal experiences into a mission of hope and opportunity for children facing similar challenges.

Education

Fr. Evans holds a Degree in Philosophy from the Pontifical Urban University (Urbaniana) in Rome, an Ecclesiastical Degree in Theology, and a Master’s Degree in Theology with a specialization in Anthropology from the Divine Word School of Theology in Tagaytay, Philippines. He is currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Chaplaincy at Grace School of Theology in Boston, USA.

Evans Wamalwa wakhongola

As a missionary Catholic priest, Fr. Evans served in the Philippines for eight years (2016–2024), where he worked closely with diverse communities and gained valuable experience in pastoral care, education, and social development. Upon returning to Kenya, he continued to channel his personal experiences and international exposure into grassroots initiatives that support and empower needy students and vulnerable families. His work remains guided by a deep belief that education is one of the most powerful tools for breaking the cycle of poverty and creating lasting social change.

Our History

Established in 2011, The Friends of Little Angels Kenya began its journey by supporting orphans and vulnerable children across Uasin Gishu County.

As our work progressed, we recognized that sustainable child welfare is deeply connected to the stability of the home.
